Game Recognizing Game - Tiger Woods Edition

That Time Tiger Woods Served as a Loyal Wingman

Although Alan Shipnuck's Sports Illustrated profile of Kevin Na is full of interesting details and insider anecdotes from Na's career -- including this one about Stevie Williams -- one of the most salacious isn't even about Na: it's about Tiger Woods.

Shipnuck recounts a story that apparently took place at the 2015 PGA Championship, in which Na and Woods ended up having a secret laugh on the practice putting green.

From the SI story:

At last year's PGA Championship, Na approached Tiger Woods on the practice putting green and asked him to autograph a hat for Nam (one of Kevin's friends). Tiger knows Nam from junior golf and is well aware that he is a fixture in Korean tabloids for having romanced a well-known actress and a former Miss Korea, among others.

"Is Nam still getting a lot of ass?" Na recalls Woods asking.

Na replied that the hat was for Nam's latest girlfriend.

That was an acceptable answer for Woods: "If it will help him get laid, I'll do it." The two cracked up, leaving the hundreds of fans surrounding the green to wonder what was so funny.

Air Jordans Were Technologically Advanced, Too

Hard to top: Biggest tech and design innovations in Air Jordan history

Air Jordan III: This is where it all changed for the Air Jordan line. With MJ reportedly still unsure of his shoe deal and sneaker future, Nike brought in Tinker Hatfield to give him something new. And was it ever new. The III gave us the famed Jumpman logo for the first time and mixed tumbled leather with a faux elephant skin print, now the most famous pattern in all of athletic shoe history. The mid-top had a visible air unit, adding so many new features to the 1988 release that, along with MJ’s Slam Dunk win and hoop success, it solidified the AJIII and Air Jordan line as the pinnacle basketball line of all-time.

AJ V: This wraps up possibly the most impactful three-sneaker run in signature shoe history. With inspiration derived from a World War II plane, we get distinct patterns and an asymmetrical collar. The translucent outsole also comes to hoops for the first time.

AJ XI: Sure, we saw a return to a clear outsole, got introduced to carbon fiber in a support shank (quite the tech-forward move for 1996), and had the enjoyment of the XI as the Space Jam sneaker. But the true allure of the XI? Patent leather. The patent leather across the toe and wrapping around the sidewall gave the Jordan line a look never before seen, on or off the court.

Some Insight On The Ducks & Kings 2016 Season

12 surprising statistics from the first half

The New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings

The Stat: 6-1 overtime records, after each went 1-7 last season

On June 24, 2015, the NHL Board of Governors approved a number of rule changes for the 2015-16 season, including the addition of 3-on-3 overtime. At that time it was hard to predict which teams would benefit most from this change. But both the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils improved their 1-7 overtime records in 2014-15 to 6-1 this season.

This success has vaulted the Kings to the top of the Pacific Division and the Devils back into contention for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Anaheim Ducks

The Stat: 6.3 shooting percentage

The Ducks scored on 75 of their 1,200 shots for a 6.3 shooting percentage, down from 9.3 percent last season. It's the lowest shooting percentage in the League this season by 1.0 percent, and the lowest by the Ducks post-2005 by 2.5 percent.

Despite having seven former 20-goal scorers in its lineup, three of whom have topped 30 goals, only one Anaheim player had more than eight goals this season at the halfway point; Corey Perry had 15 goals in 40 games.

The Pacific Division

The Stat: A combined minus-66 goal differential

The shared struggles of Pacific Division teams of comes as so much of a surprise, selecting a single statistic isn't an easy task. Despite the Los Angeles Kings outscoring their opponents by 28 goals, which ranks third in the League, the division is being outscored by 66 goals as a whole.

At the halfway mark the Pacific Division included three of the four teams that have allowed the greatest number of goals, and five of the nine teams with 42 standings points or fewer. The Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks each had their worst win-loss records since the 2005 lockout, and the Anaheim Ducks their second worst.

Ferraris Are About to Get a Little Less Rare

Ferrari is thinking about making a significant increase on its production cap.

Currently the Italian automaker’s goal is to ramp up production to 9,000 units annually by 2019, removing the previous cap of 7,000 units per year.

Speaking at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, Ferrari chairman and FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said, “We need to get there and try to determine whether the market can handle more than 9,000. The founder of Ferrari in 1947 had a clear view that we produce one car less than the market demands, so, as long as we pay attention on that rule, we’ll be fine.”
