Improve Power With A Better Stroke

What Are Stroker Kits, And How Do They Increase Torque?

An alternative to cylinder boring, a stroker kit is an effective but labour-intensive route to power gains

Thankfully, stroker kits can be purchased that simplify the process of engine enlargement by lengthening the stroke of the piston, avoiding any expensive machining needed for boring-out a cylinder.

A stroker kit increases an engine’s displacement by lengthening the stroke of the piston. In a kit will be bespoke engine components altered from OEM parts to achieve this increase in stroke. They allow the piston to travel further up and down the cylinder thanks to the use of a different crankshaft. The journals along the crankshaft are lengthened by a given distance depending on the severity of the stroke enlargement. An increase in the height of the journal makes for double that increase in stroke length. This is due to the relative increase at TDC (top dead centre) and BDC (bottom dead centre).

To stop the piston crashing into the cylinder head, other aftermarket modifications are also present. Firstly, the piston pin can be set higher up the connecting rod, or the rod itself can be shortened. This avoids any need for complicated CNC machining of cylinder heads or walls to incorporate the longer stroke.

Wider Than The Z/28's 305's, Not Quite As Wide As The GT3 RS' 325's

The Dodge Demon's massive drag tires are just barely street legal

Custom tires cover 18- by 11-inch wheels.

That wheel and tire combo, meant to fill out the Demon's new wide wheel arches, is frankly impressive. Lightweight 18- by 11-inch wheels are wrapped in special Demon branded Nitto NT05R tires measuring an astounding 315/40R18 at all four corners. Not only does that trump the old Camaro Z/28's 305 section tires, it makes the Demon the first production car to come equipped from the factory with drag radials, claims Dodge. Presumably, the goal with the Demon is to provide enough power and grip to rotate the Earth underneath the car rather than propelling the car itself down a dragstrip.

Useless Info - Potato Chips Edition

9 Little-Known Potato Chip Facts Your Brain Can Snack On

There are actually logical reasons for all that empty space in potato chip bags.

Ever open up what seems like a full bag of chips just to find there’s more space in the bag than chips? As annoying as that can be, chips are packaged that way for a few reasons. Most importantly, that excessive air in the bag in meant to act as a cushion so your precious chips don’t break during delivery. That empty space is also almost entirely nitrogen – the bag is pumped full it to maintain long-term freshness.

A potato was bred to create the "perfect chip."

The USDA and Penn State University teamed up in the late 1960s to breed a potato that would make the perfect potato chips. This potato, called the Lenape potato, was a huge success when first tested. However, it was discovered that the potato cultivar also produced an unnaturally high amount of a natural toxic substance called solanine.

While present in all potatoes in low, ineffective amounts, the Lenape potato had over TRIPLE the amount of solanine a normal potato has - enough to make anyone who initially tasted these chips nauseous. The potato was quickly discontinued afterwards, so we may never know what the "perfect potato chip" would have tasted like.
