Another Unfortunate Sign Of The Times

The Original Marie Callender's Restaurant Has Closed Its Doors After 52 Years

Marie Callender's very first coffee and pie shop in the city of Orange turned its lights off for the last time, according to the OC Register. Marie Callender's son, Don, opened this location on Tustin Street in 1964 and now a sign on the door states that the restaurant has closed due to "the end of our lease." The note also detailed: "Thank you for all the love and support. We are very thankful to have shared many meals (& pies), holidays and memories with you."

Since 1998, the family restaurant chain has diminished from 156 Southern California restaurants to just 61 at the present. Thankfully for those who grew up on Marie Callender pies, there are still locations in Mar Vista, Northridge, Sherman Oaks, West LA, and Redondo Beach, to name a few.
