With a victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jimmie Johnson won his seventh series championship on Sunday night. Johnson joins Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in the ranks of seven all-time Sprint Cup championships.

The title ties Johnson with Earnhardt and Petty for most all-time Sprint Cup championships, and Johnson will be the final winner in the era of the series’ Sprint sponsorship. NASCAR is in talks with sponsors to take over the title sponsorship when the series returns in February.

When Richard Petty left NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt passed away and Jeff Gordon announced his retirement; NASCAR fans all asked whether or not NASCAR was going to retire their iconic numbers. While the argument to do so was strong in each scenario, NASCAR ultimately decided not to take any action in all three scenarios. Tuesday night on MRN France explained why NASCAR doesn’t retire numbers.

The teams build a lot of their value around that number. Richard Childress is a good example. He’s got a lot tied to Richard Childress Racing with the 3. We’re inclined not to do that.

Basically NASCAR’s stance here is that the numbers are the brand for the teams and NASCAR taking away those numbers could potentially hurt the teams and in the end the product.

The MLB forced Eldora Speedway to rename its "Mud Summer Classic" NASCAR truck races, fearing it sounds too much like the "Midsummer Classic" All-Star Game.

But apparently Major League Baseball doesn't think its fans are smart enough to tell the difference between the All-Star Game and a summer truck racing series on a dirt oval in rural Ohio.

Yes, the MLB has pressured Eldora Speedway of Rossburg, Ohio (pop. 200) to re-name a summer promotional that for the past three years has gone under the name "Mudsummer Classic," alternately "Mud Summer Classic."
