An average NHL hockey stick costs $185, and players go through 60 to 125 sticks a year, he said. That’s as much as $23,125 in hockey sticks for one player.
Skates, which cost $700 per pair, are equally customizable.
All of the pads on an NHL player add up to about $1,200, and with replacements it costs a team about $21,000 per year to outfit a skater. Goalies are even pricier, with teams paying $36,000 per season to keep them suited up.

STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS: Guess Which Car Ottawa Senators' Goalie HEARTS On His Helmet . . . . .
Turns out that [Ottawa Senators goalie Craig] Anderson is a major fan of Chevrolet Corvettes. And, his helmet reflects that. Not only is there what I would guess is an airbrushed Corvette C7R on the helmet, he also shows some love to the Corvette Racing team's mascot, Jake.
Looking into his previous helmets, he also has other generations of the Corvette and the Jake mascot. This guy is committed!

Roughly two hours before the puck drop, they announced the signing of Alves to a professional tryout contract and issued him jersey No. 40. His mask – which he painted himself, based on drawings by a local illustrator – features caricatures of the team’s other equipment men.
“I think we were literally watching that guy’s dream come true right before our eyes,” starter Cam Ward said. “Seeing how emotional he got before that game made everybody emotional. And I said to him right before the game, `They don’t ask how or why, but you made it to the NHL.”‘
Ward bucked the tradition of having the starting goalie lead the team onto the ice for pregame warmups, letting Alves have the spotlight for himself. And with 7.6 seconds left and the outcome all but decided – the Lightning led 3-1 – coach Bill Peters sent Alves onto the ice to replace Ward. He didn’t have to face a shot but was handed the puck by teammate Jeff Skinner.
“Every time I see it, I kind of get choked up,” Alves said. “Seven-point-six seconds is going to be near and dear to me.”
A repeat doesn’t seem likely Tuesday night when New Jersey visits: Peters says if Lack is too sick to skate against the Devils, the team will recall someone from its AHL affiliate in Charlotte.
That seems fine with Alves, who joked with alternate captain Jordan Staal that the Hurricanes’ shooters weren’t about to take it easy on him during his first practice since his big debut.
“I told Jordan, ‘It was only 7.6 seconds, guys,”‘ Alves said. “I’m not an NHLer.”

The Vegas Golden Knights are officially the 31st team to join the NHL.
Exactly five months after Las Vegas was awarded an expansion team, owner Bill Foley announced the name and revealed the team logo Tuesday at Toshiba Place, just outside of T-Mobile Arena, where the Golden Knights will begin play in the 2017-18 season.

GM reportedly puts timeline at about three months for goalie's lower-body injury
Quick opted against surgery for what is believed to be a groin injury sustained in the final 30 seconds of the first period of the Kings' season-opening game against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 12. Lombardi said last week that Quick's injury is in the same area as the strained groin that kept him out for almost two months in 2013 and confirmed it was not a knee injury.

Classic on Monday, but the Finnish Flash proved Thursday he has some
golf game too.
Rocking
his throwback 1990s-era Mighty Ducks of Anaheim jersey, Selanne chipped
a golf ball straight off the Honda Center ice into one of the arena's
luxury suites.
Selanne said in the tweet accompanying his bar-down hockey shot that he "wished golf would be that easy." But if the video is any indication, his short game appears pretty strong, particularly given his unfavorable lie. Here's hoping he didn't break anything.

Auston Matthews participated in
his first practice with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, and the
No. 1 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft quickly left his mark at training camp.
Matthews showed off the strength of his slap shot by one-timing Mitch Marner's pass through a pane of glass behind the goal at MasterCard Centre.

Dawn Braid became the first female
to coach full-time in the NHL when she was hired as the skating coach
for the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.
"It's something that I've wanted to see happen," Braid said. "The fact that they respect what I do enough to name me as a full-time coach, or to name me as the first female coach in the NHL, I take a ton of pride in that. I've worked very hard for this opportunity. It's been going on for years and I just look forward to going even further with it."
Braid
worked with the Coyotes as a part-time skating coach last season and
previously worked as a consultant for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim
Ducks, Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames."It's something that I've wanted to see happen," Braid said. With Milan Lucic leaving as free agent, Los Angeles must spread scoring
The Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 and advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2013. But since winning the championship two years ago, they have failed to get past the first round; after failing to qualify for the postseason in 2014-15, the Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks in five games in the first round last season.
The good news for the Kings is they still have Vezina Trophy finalist Jonathan Quick and Selke Trophy winner Anze Kopitar, their new captain, who has led them in scoring nine straight seasons.
Defense rarely is a problem for the Kings, with Norris Trophy winner Drew Doughty leading the way. They allowed the third-fewest goals per game last season but were 14th in the League in goals scored. They won too many games 3-2 or 2-1. They didn't make many moves on offense but are hoping to spread the scoring more this season.

- The Stanley Cup finalists are deeper and faster with the addition of speedy winger Mikkel Boedker. If keeper Martin Jones can match his playoff performance, they'll be the favorites to claim the Pacific Division.
9. Anaheim Ducks
- There's lots to like about the defending Pacific champs, but still so many questions to be answered. Randy Carlyle brings a new voice, but is he really an improvement on Bruce Boudreau? Can Cam Fowler be flipped for a top-six left winger? If not, who steps up to fill the role? Nick Ritchie and Mason Raymond won't cut it.
10. Los Angeles Kings
- After the Kings blew a 16-point lead over the Ducks, then bowed out meekly in the first round to the Sharks, there was pressure on GM Dean Lombardi to pump new life into this roster. Instead, cap issues cost L.A. top-six winger Milan Lucic and the best option to patch over the holes on defense was Canadiens castoff Tom Gilbert. That's not going to get it done.
