About Damn Time, Honda! But Too Little, Too Late?
Honda dreaming up Civic Type R variants - with more power, AWD
More power and AWD are possibilities.
If, for some reason, the Type R isn't powerful enough for you, or you don't like the front-drive layout, Honda might still find a way to make you a Type R customer. According to Automotive News, Honda is planning a number of variants to broaden the appeal and extend sales once the first enthusiasts have already made their purchases.
The first candidate for a special Type R would be a sportier, more powerful version. Honda's chief engineer for the Civic lineup, Hideki Matsumoto, told Automotive News that a more civilized grand touring version is also under consideration. Perhaps most interesting is the possibility of an all-wheel-drive Type R that would compete more directly with the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R, Subaru WRX STI, and Ford Focus RS. So, while the wait is over for the Type R's arrival in the US, the slow burn of the rollout is just beginning as Honda works to give the model staying power in the marketplace.

A Brief History Of A 90's Road Icon
Honda NSX: The Full Story
(CarThrottle.com)
The Honda NSX. Nobody expected it. Nobody expected a
supercar, or even a normal car to come out of Japan to tackle the best
the Europeans were offering. Marques from Ferrari, Lamborghini,
Maserati, Porsche, and many more. No one really dared to take the
challenge that time, and the current models offered by rivals Toyota,
Nissan and Mazda were nothing to the Europeans at that time.(Sorry JDM
fans).
Honda had nothing at that time, so they took the opportunity to build the first Japanese supercar to tackle the best of Ferrari. They had high hopes for this project. What started out as an experiment turned out to be a Japanese legend. Even the McLaren F1, the previous record holder of the world’s fastest car’s design was inspired by the NSX.
Timeless, elegant design by legendary design studio Pininfarina, Honda’s advanced engine technology, a lightweight body, and even co-developed by Formula 1 legend Aryton Senna, it was a recipe for perfection. One that would re-define and revolutionize the face of Japanese cars, one that would force the Europeans to step up their game, and one that made the undisputed king of sports car at that time, Ferrari, tremble to their knees.
This blog embodies the history of this legendary Japanese supercar, its variants, its racing history and even its rebirth. Two decades of iconic Japanese history compressed into one blog.

My Favorite Civic From The List
The 5 Most Important Honda Civics Ever

EK9 Civic Type R (1997-2000)
Starting with the EK4 SiR, Honda decided to tinker with
the car until it met the company’s own standards for a performance
hatch. After some fettling, the EK chassis acquired the Type R badge in
1997 and was known as the EK9 (video review coming soon!). Continuing
Honda’s talent for producing innovative engines, the powerplant of the
EK9 had one of the highest specific outputs of the time by conjuring
180bhp from just 1.6 litres of displacement.
Sharing many components with the DC2 Integra Type R, the EK9 utilised its minimal 1090kg kerb weight to become one of the all-time great hot hatches. With V-TEC kicking in at 6000rpm, the original Civic Type R provided the perfect performance platform for JDM lovers of the late 90s.
