Ford Mustangs come straight from the dealership with 800 hp for $40k
That's a hell of a deal.
Lebanon Ford, for example, likes to supercharge its Mustangs.
In 2016, the Ohio-based dealer could put a customer behind the wheel of a
727-horsepower Mustang, one that definitely rivaled anything
Hellcat-badged from Mopar. This year, there's even more power courtesy,
and the sticker's a reasonable-sounding $39,995.
Lebanon Ford starts with a 2018 Mustang GT,
which they have priced at $31,785. A three-liter Whipple Stage 1
supercharger kit comes on top, giving you five bucks in exchange from
$40k. The end result is 800 horsepower at the crank, and they have the
dyno sheets to prove it. The Whipple blower extracted 775 crank
horsepower out of a test car, and further tuning got it to an even 800.
For any fine tuning needs, a Whipple Tomahawk handheld tuner tool is
included.
There are a few caveats: the supercharger kit kills the Ford powertrain warranty. For a little less than a grand, you can specify a three-year Whipple warranty that covers it. The rest of the car's parts
are still warrantied from factory, Whipple'd or not. Builds begin in
less than a month, with the orders open already. Lebanon Ford says their
"LFP" packages could extend to cars other than the Mustang in the
future.

This Is Some Great News For Pony Fans
Former Shelby employees plan continuation 1965 Shelby GT350R
Three former Shelby American employees who worked on the 1965 Shelby GT350R plan to build officially licensed continuation version of the iconic sports racing car, with a few upgrades, Carscoops reports.
The project is being overseen by the Original Venice Crew, made up of former Shelby America employees Peter Brock, Jim Marietta and Ted Sutton.
The trio say they plan to produce 36 units starting this fall. They'll be based on the standard 4.7-liter, 289 cubic-inch V8 engine sourced from the Carroll Shelby Engine Co. and a four-speed transmission, plus fully reconditioned bodies. But they'll include experimental upgrades designed by Brock but left out of the original production models due to time constraints.
Those include a new front valance, Plexiglas rear windows and three-quarter windows, and an independent rear suspension designed by Ford.
Starting price is set at a cool $250,000.

The strange and unlikely story of 100 identical Ford Mustang convertibles
A Christmas gift guide gone wrong, and a whole fleet of misfit toys.
You're now wondering, as we were, why a dealer would need or want 100 matching manual-transmission GT convertibles. The answer has to do with the 2015 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book. You may be familiar with the limited-edition cars sold through the annual holiday catalog – stuff like Hennessey Vipers, Astons with special paint, and this past year's glittery Infiniti Q60. They're generally regular-production cars modified with unique paint and other touches, offered in limited quantities and often coinciding with a model's introduction. For 2015, it was something a little different: a Neiman Marcus Limited-Edition custom Mustang with a supercharged, 700-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 and an elaborate body kit. A total of 100 were to be offered. Neiman's limited-edition Christmas cars tend to sell out in a matter of hours or even minutes. Not this one.
There were some problems. The original Neiman Marcus listing described the car as having all-wheel drive. Being a Mustang, of course, it did not. We immediately questioned the description and soon found that this was, in fact, a rear-drive Mustang like all the others before it. (The corrected catalog entry is still available on the Neiman Marcus site.) That may have turned some people off, especially if they were reading the printed version of the catalog and called to order a mythical all-wheel-drive pony car. The price may have also had something to do with the relative lack of takers: $95,000 for a custom-painted Mustang with a roll hoop, a hard tonneau, wheels, tires, exhaust, and lowering springs, plus a two-day Ford Racing School course. That's a roughly $40,000 premium over the base car.
It's not clear exactly who was responsible for the conversions or how Russ Milne Ford was originally involved. Neiman's catalog entry mentions SMC Productions LLC as the seller, and the body kits were sourced from Classic Design Concepts in Troy, Michigan. Most of the parts, aside from the tonneau and roll hoop, match those included in CDC's Outlaw kit for 2015+ Mustangs. Until recently, SMC Productions had a one-page website that basically mirrored the description from the Neiman Marcus catalog, but the domain registration has since expired. We emailed the address on that page looking for answers but did not hear back.

The Ford Mustang GT350 Has Holes In The Exhaust For The Most Bizarre Reason
The holes in the GT350's exhaust tips are because of the tires, as Ford’s Chief Performance engineer Jamal Hameedi explained to Jay Leno on an episode of his garage show. “The tires are so sticky that they take little pebbles, and they spit them up in the back of the fascia.”
This happens when, after a session out on the track, the Mustang’s
hot tires become sticky like a piece of flypaper and begin to pick up
all the little pebbles and gravel on the road. The tires naturally fling
them towards the rear fascia and those exhausts tips that are not
totally connected to the actual exhaust. Without those drain holes, the
rocks and pebbles would rattle around in there.

Dealer selling 727-hp Ford Mustang for $40K
There are some caveats, of course.
Lebanon's formula for this high-performance Stang is absurdly simple – take a base, 5.0-liter GT, which retails for $32,395. Add Roush's $7,549.99 Phase 2 supercharger kit and its 2.3-liter TVS blower. Charge just $39,995. According to Roush's own website, installing the Phase 2 kit takes 12 hours, which the dealership is eating. That's what really makes this a bargain. There are some caveats here, of course.
What customers get for $40,000 is a base Mustang with a supercharger – this isn't one of Roush's Stage 1, 2, or 3 creations. There's no upgraded body kit, bigger wheels, more powerful brakes, or stiffer suspension. But Lebanon doesn't sound like it's planning on selling a lot of sleeper-spec Mustangs. Watson told The Drive many of the dealership's Roush products are selling for $45,000 to $50,000, and even a few $60,000 models have rolled off the dealer's lot, after customers dig deeper into the Roush parts catalog.

The 'R' Now Stands For Rear Seats, Not Race Car
Ford Mustang GT350R gets back-seat option for $999
Damn it, now Ford is doing it. It used to be the Germans were the only folks that would sell you a four-seat version of a two-seat version of a four-seat car. But now the Blue Oval has gotten on board, albeit in a far more limited form with the new GT350R.
The two-seat, high-performance Mustang can now be had with a new Ford Performance accessory that will transform the car back into a proper two-plus-two for just $999, not counting installation. The new back seat kit adds a pair of chairs, complete with seatbelts and the same Alcantara upholstery and red accent stitching found on the big-kid seats up front.
Now, there are a couple ways of looking at this decision on Ford's part. For one, it could be adopting the Porsche model – charging to remove stuff and then charging again to put it back. Or, there are some clever Ford engineers that realize a GT350R with actual back seats is just as capable of entertaining kids as annual trips to Disneyworld, but will cost a lot less. The reality, according to Ford, is much more mundane.
"We always listen to customer feedback," Ford Performance global director Dave Pericak said in a statement. "So when many requested a back seat for their GT350R, we acted quickly to make it available."
Answering customer concerns is always good, but if you really need room for four people, why even buy a two-seat car in the first place? Seems like people are missing the point of a GT350R. Read on for the official press release from the Blue Oval.

With a 435-hp V8 engine, the Mustang is also rear-wheel drive, can be had with a manual or an automatic transmission and is capable of carrying four people. It may lack some of the sophistication of the M4, but the new Mustang is a far cry from the crude solid-axle Mustangs of old. Best of all, the Mustang GT starts at a price of just $32,395, about half the price of an M4!
