This Is Worth Every Penny

This 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Evolution Racer Is Somehow Street Legal and For Sale

Sell everything you own so you can buy this car.

This particular 911 GT1 Evolution has a pretty decent racing resume: 13 wins from 31 starts. That includes three consecutive Canadian GT championship victories between 1999 and 2001. It also competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. And now you can put a license plate on it, apparently.

If you're anxious to get your hands on this literal race car for the streets, be ready for some serious sticker shock. RM Sotheby's, the auction house responsible for the listing, estimates it will go for between $2.97 million and $3.3 million at current exchange rates.

This Is True

The 'Enthusiast Version' of a Car Should Cost Less, Not More

The recently unveiled Porsche 911 R and Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport reopen an age-old enthusiast debate.

It's one of those simple questions that can lead to a whole night's worth of discussion at a bar, in the pits of an endurance race, or on an Internet forum: Should the "enthusiast version" of a car be cheaper than the standard version, or should it cost more? In one corner, you've got the people who think that more is always better. Call them the ZR1 crowd, after the old first-generation King of the Hill Vette that basically represented a high-buck rework of the C4 Corvette. Yeah, they want more. More power. More tire. More exotic materials. Limited production numbers. Sticker prices that guarantee exclusivity.

Then you have the people who think that, when it comes to enthusiast cars, less is more. I'm one of them, most of the time. Less weight, less equipment, but especially less money. Our patron saint is Max Hoffman, who came up with the idea of the Porsche 356 Speedster, thus doing more with less. We preferred the '89 Civic Si to the Prelude 4WS, the Sentra SE-R to the NX2000, the '93 911 RS America to the Turbo 3.6. A surprising number of us, when pressed, will admit that some of the best times of our driving lives happened behind the wheel of Fox-body Mustangs or four-cylinder Japanese minitrucks.

BMWphiles: Will The X5M And X6M Be MORE Collectible Down The Road OVER Passenger M Cars?

Will the X5M and X6M be MORE desired down the road over other M cars?

While I must admit I chastised the M sport-utility vehicles previously — before I drove them — I have learned to love these monsters. They're so incredibly capable, spacious and, in my opinion, better than the current-gen M5 sedan.
And if there's one thing that doesn't appear to be slowing down or changing, it's consumers affection for SUVs.

Calvin Johnson retires: 'I have played my last game of football'

In a statement released by the Lions, Johnson said he would not be having a news conference to discuss his decision.
"Let me begin by apologizing for making this announcement via a statement and not in person. While I truly respect the significance of this, those who know me best will understand and not be surprised that I choose not to have a press conference for this announcement.
"After much prayer, thought and discussion with loved ones, I have made the difficult decision to retire from the Lions and pro football. I have played my last game of football.

NHL Power Rankings: Capitals take back top spot - SI.com

2. Anaheim Ducks
  • Their 11-game winning streak came to a cruel end on Monday night, but not before the Ducks took control of the Pacific Division. They've also put at least one point up on the board in 14 straight (12-0-2), the NHL's longest such run since the Bruins went 16 in a row back in 2014.
  • Last week: 3-0-1
7. Los Angeles Kings
  • No way around it: that 3–2 loss to the Ducks hurt. As well as the Kings have played of late, winning six of eight and allowing only six goals in those wins, they gave away the Pacific lead by dropping a pair to Anaheim in a span of a week. Their next meeting, on April 7, should be a dandy.
  • Last week: 2-1-0
10. San Jose Sharks
  • Attention, Mike Babcock: That Brent Burns kid can play a little defense when he sets his mind to it. The Team Canada hopeful had a –15 rating on Jan. 2. Since then, he's +11, a reflection of his improved all-around play and its impact on the success of his team.

The Sport Is In Some Serious Trouble With No Solution

The Real Reason More Americans Don't Get Hooked on Golf

The National Golf Foundation’s chief executive, Joe Beditz, told the Wall Street Journal that to solve its popularity woes, golf needs to become “more beginner-friendly.” “It’s like we’re running a gas station. ‘Come or don’t come. Here’s the price,’” he said.

What’s really getting in the way of turning casual golfers into lifelong fans isn’t necessarily the expense or the time commitment. The NGF blames an atmosphere unfriendly to outsiders and a course structure that offers no on-ramp for beginners.
According to the NGF, the total number of golfers in America fell from 24.7 million in 2014 to 24.1 million in 2015. The peak of 30 million came in 2005.
