Mystery of Brian Burke’s tie revealed!

Why the hell doesn’t he tie his ties?

“Business slob,” Burke clarifies now. “You can’t not wear a tie. That’s just casual.”

As time passed, Burke delayed the task later and later until he abandoned tying it altogether, developing as signature a look as any in the league. “It was one of those things where it was the last thing you possibly do as you’re heading out is tie your tie, then that last thing fell off the priority list,” his daughter Katie says.

Did You Know - Bugatti Chiron Edition

9 Astonishing Facts About The Bugatti Chiron

As with the old Veyron, the Chiron - revealed yesterday at the Geneva motor show - is a technological marvel that brings with it all sorts of bonkers facts, stats and superlatives. Here are a few of our favourites . . . . .

It's as rigid as an LMP1 racing car
  • The monocoque of the Chiron is a special bit of kit. It’s made entirely from carbonfibre and on its own takes four weeks to make. It’s 8kg lighter than the Veyron’s monocoque, and is exceptionally rigid. Bugatti says that the Chiron “reaches a torsional rigidity of 50,000 Nm per degree and a flexural rigidity of about 0.25 mm per tonne” - and if you’ve no idea what that means, all you need to know is that it’s apparently comparable to an LMP1 endurance racer in rigidity terms.
It went through hella testing
  • During development, Chiron test cars have spent a combined 300 hours in the wind tunnel, clocked over 300,000 miles and munched through 200 sets of tyres. Bugatti says that it had to develop a new test bench for the 8.0-litre engine, as existing test equipment wasn’t able to apply big enough loads for the W16.

Did You Know - Cop Cars Edition

11 Things You Didn't Know About Cop Cars

4. The Crown Victoria was such a huge success for decades because it was easy to both maintain and drive
  • Structurally speaking, the Crown Vic shared more in common with a truck than a modern-day car, so when an officer crashed, it was super cheap to fix. Also, most police training is designed for rear-wheel-drive cars, which in emergency situations and some specialized police drills require different driving techniques than front-wheel-drive cars like the Taurus, and it took forever to update the training program.
9. Almost 3/4ths of American cop cars are capable of Orwellian surveillance
  • Whenever you see an officer at a light and assume he or she is running plates, you're half right, since most cop cars automatically read your plates without the officer needing to do a damn thing. They'll snap your picture, too, and timestamp/geolocate the image and store it indefinitely. Unless you happen to have infrared LEDs pointed at your plate (they blind the camera, so definitely don't do that), "they" know where you've been.
