Troy Aikman reaps millions by selling Wingstop shares on 1st day of trading

The former Dallas Cowboys great confirmed Friday night that he cashed out an undisclosed stake of shares he owned in Dallas-based Wingstop, which saw its share price rise 61 percent on its first day of trading Friday.

Aikman wouldn't disclose his total ownership in the company but did say it's worth more than what he made in his first four years in the NFL. Aikman made about $6 million in those first four years, as he didn't see the final two years of his rookie contract after signing a bigger deal in 1992. That deal was done after the Cowboys won the first of three Super Bowls in four years.

In 2003, three years after he retired, Aikman did an endorsement deal with Wingstop when it had just 133 restaurants.

"At the time, it was a natural fit," Aikman said. "They had a Wingstop right across from our Valley Ranch training facility, and I used to meet teammates there on Thursday night."

Aikman became more than just the face of the brand in 2011, shortly after the company was purchased by private equity firm Roark Capital, when he was named to the board of directors.

During Aikman's time with the company, the number of locations has grown to more than 750, and CEO Charlie Morrison told CNBC on Friday that the plan is to grow to 2,500 in the U.S. alone.

Sharks Host Draft Viewing Party on 6/26

Meet Sharks Alum Nabokov and other Special Guests at Stanley's Sports Bar

SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) invite all Bay Area hockey fans to attend the second annual Sharks Draft Party on Fri., June 26. The Sharks Draft Party will take place at Stanley's Sports Bar, located inside Sharks Ice at San Jose at 1500 South 10th Street in San Jose, from approximately 3-8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Be sure to arrive early as space is limited.

The event will be hosted by Sharks television play-by-play announcer Randy Hahn (@sharkvoice) and radio play-by-play announcer Dan Rusanowsky (@DanRusanowsky). Sharks alumnus Evgeni Nabokov and other special guests will also be in attendance for a Q&A session and to meet with fans. The first round of the 2015 NHL Draft will be shown LIVE on multiple screens at Stanley's starting at 4 p.m. on NBC SportsNetwork.

"We hope [LPGA commissioner] Mike Whan meets with the committee and that there is a democratic process," Bruce Henderson said. "Brooke is good for golf, she's good for revenue, she brings young people into the game."

Where Henderson's request falls short is that even if Whan granted her an age exemption, that only makes her eligible to be a member. She would still have to earn her card, and there are three ways to do that:

1. Win an LPGA event.
2. Finish in the top 40 on the final LPGA money list.
3. Go to LPGA Qualifying school at the end of the year and earn a card there.

If Whan had granted Henderson an age exemption when she applied last year, it would have only made her eligible to TRY to be a member at Q school. Remember, Michelle Wie, for all her early success, still had to earn her card at Q school.
