I Believe These Character Traits Are Vital

21 Things Every Gentleman Should Know How To Do By The Time He Turns 30

Some basics and also some not-so-basics to help you out.

4. How to make a budget and stick to it.

Making a budget is important (unless you're rich, in which case you can skip this or you already know this, which is why you're rich). But you should be aware of how much money you have coming in and how much is going out.

Budgets will also help you plan for rainy days when you need extra cash or to save for a vacation that you really want to go on. They are super-duper important. In today's hyperconnected world, there are a bunch of budget-planning apps that are easy-peasy to use. Start by exploring the App Store on your phone, and peruse the "finance" section to find one that works best for you.

5. How to tie a tie.

OK, so: I'm 29 and I don't know how to tie a tie. I know it's bad, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't know how to do it. I'm fucked if I have to go to a wedding, but you don't have to be like me. If you don't know how to tie a tie, just watch this video and practice and you'll be a pro in no time.

6. How to negotiate:

Negotiating at work is very, very useful. You should feel confident in your skill set and what you bring to the table professionally — and for that reason you should be able to convey your value and receive fair compensation for your worth. Knowing how to skillfully do that is tough, though, so study up. The more you do it, the better you'll get at it. (Negotiating and compromising is also something that will get you a long way if you're in a relationship.)
