Well Said

Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level. - Bruce Lee

Warren Buffett Just Won Millions On A 10-Year Bet Against A Hedge Fund Manager

Warren Buffett is one of, if not THE, most successful investors in history. The Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway has been prophetic throughout the years and he’s racked up a personal net worth of over $87.5 BILLION.

As of January 1st, 2018, Warren Buffett has another reason to celebrate: he just won a 10-year-long bet against former hedge fund president Ted Seides of Protege Partners, LLC. The stakes were set for $2,222,278, the bet began on January 1st, 2008 and ended on December 31, 2017. While $2.22 million is an absolute FORTUNE to you or me, it’s chump change to Warren Buffett, but it’s not about the money, it’s about winning the bet against one of his peers.

After 10 years, the index fund returned 7.1% compounded annually while ‘Protégé funds returned an average of only 2.2% net of all fees’ according to this article on Medium which talked about the decade-long bet.

I Know Trucks Are Popular, But This Is Beyond Belief

Buyers ditching expensive European sedans to buy expensive American trucks

The truck and crossover craze is even crazier than most of us realized

From 2013 to 2017, the truck category — everything from pickups to minivans — climbed from 30 percent of the market to 41 percent. In January of this year, trucks claimed 66 percent of new vehicle sales. At the milk-and-honey end of profits, GMC alone accounted for 11.3 percent of all vehicle sales over $60,000, not just trucks. That puts the luxury truck maker behind Mercedes-Benz and Ford, The Blue Oval's feasting on Lariat, King Ranch and Raptor versions of the F-150, which make up more than half of that pickup's sales, putting it ahead of Chevrolet, Porsche and Lexus on the high-dollar sales list. The average transaction price of a GMC in Denali trim last year was $56,000; it's easy to see why, when one dealer told the NYT he just swapped a 2012 BMW 550i for a $71,000 GMC Sierra Denali. That truck starts at $52,900.

The NYT started its story with a buyer who took home a Ford Raptor instead of an Audi A6, and optioned that $50,020 Ford Raptor close to $80,000. Over at Lincoln, the new $72,055 Navigator — the one so popular that Ford will increase production — crossed hands for an average sale price of $77,000 in January. And a Jeep dealer told the NYT that the two $93,000 Trackhawks he had on his lot "won't be here more than a few weeks."

While trucks head up in sales volume and price, cars are headed so viciously in the opposite direction that "the Detroit Three and even some foreign manufacturers acknowledge they are now losing money on many of the cars they sell." So ... get ready for a lot more crossovers and trucks.

Dallas luxury group dives into subscription market

One unique aspect of the Park Place Select service is that it offers unlimited flips, or vehicle switches, and the price includes pickup and delivery in the DFW metropolitan area, Evans said.

For $895 a month at the Prime tier, subscribers have their choice of popular vehicles from Mercedes, Lexus, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover that come with insurance, maintenance and unlimited mileage.

The vehicle choices represent a mix of sedans, crossovers and SUVs, and subscribers can pick one using a smartphone application developed in partnership with Atlanta-based Clutch Technologies, which also supports the Flow and Porsche programs.

"The pricing that we have reflects all those elements and I think is very well in line with what would be the typical cost structure of one of those vehicles," Evans said.

Climbing up to the $1,395 payment at the Prime level brings higher-end vehicles from those manufacturers plus an entree into the Porsche brand with the Macan crossover.

The highest Premium tier at $1,795 gives subscribers access to the Maserati Ghibli sedan, Levante crossover, AMG models from Mercedes, two additional Porsches and the Range Rover Sport and Velar.

This Will Yenko Your Chain (& Wallet)

Yenko Stage II Camaro makes 1000 horsepower

Because three-digit horsepower is for losers.

Now available to be ordered at a Chevrolet dealer, the Yenko/SC Supercharged Stage II Camaro boasts a 6.8-liter LT1 teased all the way up to 1000 horsepower and 875 lb-ft of torque. Developed by Specialty Vehicle Engineering, the aluminum block engine has a forged 4340 steel crankshaft and H-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons and ported LT4 heads, plus a supercharger and a stainless steel header and exhaust setup.

The Yenko Stage II Camaro makes easy work of beating a standard 6.2-liter Camaro SS, which "only" has 455 hp and 455 lb-ft from factory. There's also Magnetic Ride Control, an electronic LSD, Brembo brakes and a suspension upgraded to withstand all that power. All in all, it's an impressive package that should actually be well done given that the engine, supercharger and non-powertrain components are all backed by a three-year/36,000 mile warranty. If you want one, it's best to act fast as only 25 will be made. Then again, pricing has yet to be announced.

Why Ford Doesn't 'Raptor' The Mustang Is Beyond Me

Ford Mustangs come straight from the dealership with 800 hp for $40k

That's a hell of a deal.

Lebanon Ford, for example, likes to supercharge its Mustangs.

In 2016, the Ohio-based dealer could put a customer behind the wheel of a 727-horsepower Mustang, one that definitely rivaled anything Hellcat-badged from Mopar. This year, there's even more power courtesy, and the sticker's a reasonable-sounding $39,995.

Lebanon Ford starts with a 2018 Mustang GT, which they have priced at $31,785. A three-liter Whipple Stage 1 supercharger kit comes on top, giving you five bucks in exchange from $40k. The end result is 800 horsepower at the crank, and they have the dyno sheets to prove it. The Whipple blower extracted 775 crank horsepower out of a test car, and further tuning got it to an even 800. For any fine tuning needs, a Whipple Tomahawk handheld tuner tool is included.

There are a few caveats: the supercharger kit kills the Ford powertrain warranty. For a little less than a grand, you can specify a three-year Whipple warranty that covers it. The rest of the car's parts are still warrantied from factory, Whipple'd or not. Builds begin in less than a month, with the orders open already. Lebanon Ford says their "LFP" packages could extend to cars other than the Mustang in the future.

Only Question Is, Is It Transferable Between Owners?

Bugatti offers 15-year warranty as part of its Veyron Loyalty Maintenance Program

There’s great news for Bugatti Veyron owners as the automaker recently introduced the Loyalty Maintenance Program to help customers maintain the condition of their cars and to allow them to keep their vehicles in mint condition.

The Loyalty Maintenance Program is actually part of the company’s Extended Warranty and Extended Warranty Plus programs, which can last for as long as 15 years. Owning a Bugatti Veyron can be very expensive; the maintenance costs alone are already high. The brand hopes that this program will help reduce operating costs for owners.

Franco Utzeri, head of Bugatti Certified and Financial Services, says that the Bugatti Customer Service is definitely more than just a seal of approval, making a difference for Veyron owners. It includes warranty, individual support, and a combination of a confirmed vehicle history. The automaker’s goal is also to give their customers a unique experience and 360 degree ownership that no other automaker currently offers.

For customers who would like to earn a Bugatti Certified seal, their Veyron must first pass an inspection process. Here, everything will be tested and if necessary, some parts will be replaced - and this includes mechanical bits as well as body parts. Your vehicle will also go through an update. In the end of it all, a Bugatti Certified seal will be given to the car owner, while also extending the car’s warranty.

A number of different maintenance packages will be offered to Veyron owners, who will then choose depending on which one fits their lifestyle the most. With this much variety, it goes to show that Bugatti really considers its spectrum of customers, as they can provide to a very diverse group of individuals.

I Do Some Of These Things From Time To Time

15 things you should be doing after work instead of watching TV if you want to be happier

1. Read

3. Call a friend
  • Catch up with someone you haven't talked to in a while — you never know what the conversation can lead to.
4. Or meet up in person
  • Rather than going home right after work, meet up with someone and grab dinner or drinks. Just make sure to put your phone away and give them your full attention.
7. Meditate
  • This doesn't need to take up all your free time. Set aside 10-30 minutes right when you get home or right before bed to calm your mind. Here's how to do it if you're new to the practice.
15. Make a list
  • It can be about anything — maybe you need to lay out your groceries for the week, or want to compile your favorite companies to work for, or have been meaning to jot down your New Year's resolutions. Take the time to write them down, then come up with a plan for how to execute on them. An easy way to motivate yourself to follow through.

This Is Going To Have 1 Lucky (& Wealthy) New Owner Soon

Final GT40 Mk. IV, all-original Shelby 427 Cobra going to auction

They'll be auctioned by Gooding & Company at the Amelia Island auction

It's the last of 12 GT40 chassis built by Ford for 1967, the only year Mk. IV GT40s raced because of rule changes for 1968. And when it was built, it was really just a chassis built as a spare for the cars Ford took to Le Mans. The chassis made its way to private owners in the intervening years, one of whom collaborated with a former owner to finish it into a complete car. It has the correct dry-sump 427 V8 making about 525 horsepower and a correct 4-speed manual transmission. The project was finished in 1987. Of interest to potential buyers, the car is now eligible for participation in FIA-sanctioned vintage motorsports events.

This Is A Man's Bento Box

This Cow-Shaped Bento Box Has 10 Pounds of Premium Wagyu Beef

And it costs nearly $3,000

Japanese bento boxes typically contain an assortment of relatively light, healthy items like fish, vegetables, soup, and salads, along with small portions of rice, meat, or tempura. But a new lunch delivery service called Gochikuru is taking the set meal in the completely opposite direction with the release of a two-foot-wide cow-shaped box full of 10 pounds of wagyu beef from Tottori Prefecture, which is widely considered to be some of the most delectable meat in the world.

The slices of cooked sirloin, prime rib, brisket, and tongue, are arranged over Kinu Musume rice, and the meal is garnished with dipping sauces, lime wedges, and wasabi. This special delivery item will set you back around $2,800 after sales tax. That’s truly a lot of money for a bento box, but if you were to split this order with nine friends, you could each feast on a pound of meat for around $280 — still expensive, but that price is at least in the realm of what you might spend on a splashy dinner at a steakhouse.

A Historically (Bad) Sales YEar

Chevrolet Sold One (1) New Car In The United Kingdom Last Month

It has come to our attention that Chevrolet is off to a booming start this year in the United Kingdom, where it reportedly sold a total of one—yes, one—car last month. Notably, that’s one (1) more than its U.K. sales a year prior. Not bad!

Chevrolet’s long been a nonentity in the U.K. for General Motors, but the Jalopnik staff had a brief pause when one of us stumbled onto this story from Top Gear’s website. Car sales were down in January, the story says, adding:
Chevrolet sold… one. One car. Awww.

Something To Ponder

I focus almost all of my time, money, and resources on creating new experiences and improving relationships… Not things.

And this has TRANSFORMED my financial life forever.

I no longer have to worry about money.

I don’t stress about my income or bills because I don’t spend money on material items that don’t bring me real happiness, freedom, and peace of mind.

And you know what?

I’m the happiest that I’ve ever been in my life.

An Impressive MR2

A 1000-HP Toyota MR2 Is Too Much Car, Even for the Track

There's only so much power you can push through a car before it's overwhelmed.

This SW20 MR2 was assembled by ATS Racing, and features the shop's full catalog of upgrades. That includes a fully built engine capable of 1000 crank-horsepower through the use of a 2.3-liter Camry block and a Precision 6265 ball bearing turbo making up to 45 psi of boost. There's also upgraded CV joints, an upgraded twin-disc clutch, and a Wilwood big brake kit.

On track, Farah finds the MR2's speed almost too much to handle, even for the open track. He manages to overheat the brakes after a few laps simply because he was going so fast. Even though MR2s are light, there's only so much the brakes can handle.

Watch for yourself as he tries to tame the mid-engine beast.

This Is Truely Being Able To Do Something You Love

How A Bunch Of Volunteer Honda Employees Working After Hours Ran An NSX At Daytona

Honda of America Racing Team [HART}. They’re an all-volunteer team of regular Honda employees recruited mostly by word of mouth for one purpose: racing the cars Honda makes.

HART has competed in endurance races since its inception in 1989, but those early races were little SCCA amateur events. Slowly HART climbed up, steadily moving into ever-more competitive series, then taking a year off in 2017 to simply shadow a more professional team. This year they’re tackling their biggest challenge yet: the North American Endurance Cup, which includes the United States’ four most grueling endurance races. When I met them, they were running an Acura NSX at the 24 Hours of Daytona. They’d come a long way from wheeling Civics around a track.

Because it’s largely a volunteer effort, though, the team operates on a fraction of the budget compared to the others running in their GT Daytona class. Much of HART’s funding comes from Honda itself. HART is actually a department within the administration division of Honda, and a form of Human Relations within the company ultimately allocates their funding. Because this was a bigger than usual effort for HART, some of their funding came from selling off previous parts, cars and tools.

“Even though this isn’t our regular job and we don’t have much experience in this—the reason they give us the funding to do this is, we design and develop the car in Ohio, in the U.S.,” Gilsinger explained. “It’s not just that we’re taking the car and going racing, but we’re taking a car that everybody around [on the team] had something to do in creating it,” he added.

The team is a hell of a perk, despite functioning somewhat as a second job within the company. In fact, the existence of the HART team actually convinced Gilsinger to work at Honda, despite also having a job offer from Ford.

A Thought To Ponder

Everyone in this world works based on their own time zone.

People around you might seem to be ahead of you.

That’s total fine. Some are behind you.

Everyone is running their own race in their own time zone.

Don’t envy or mock them.

They are in their own time zone and you are in yours.

I'd Daily The SS & Track The STi

These Are The Best Performance Cars On A $50,000 Budget

Subaru WRX STI $36,095

The WRX STI is not a refined and luxurious sedan. It does not offer a soft suspension setup to absorb road irregularities. What it does offer is Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, a 305-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine and the kind of handling prowess that will have you hounding supercars up a mountain pass. At $36,095 it undercuts just about all of its natural rivals and is available solely with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet SS Sedan $46,625

The Chevy SS is no more. This big and brash V8 sedan was a characterful alternative to the anodyne and all too straight-laced modern turbocharged sedan and it will be sorely missed. The big and booming 415-hp 6.2-liter LS3 V8 gave it proper pace with 60 mph taking only 4.7 seconds and you could even have it with a 6-speed manual transmission. It wasn’t all old-school either, magnetic selective ride control and powerful Brembo brakes were standard fitment, a bit of good news is that they are still listed on Chevrolet’s website which may mean that there are a few SS sedans still waiting for a new home.

Did You Know - Volvo Edition

This Is The Surprisingly Obvious Reason Why Volvos Have That Diagonal Bar On Their Grilles

Volvo’s ÖV 4, built in 1927, was nicknamed ‘Jakob’ and was the first vehicle to bear the Volvo name. Jakob had a sort of flawed birth; when the first one was to be driven out of the factory, it went backwards, due to an incorrectly installed rear axle gear. Also, as a convertible made for the Swedish climate, it may not have had the best body style for its target market.

Still, it was the first Volvo, and as such it wore the Volvo iron mark, designed by the painter and designer Helmer MasOlle. MasOlle wanted the badge to be centered in the open square air-intake area of the radiator housing.

The radiator housing had no proper grille or screen in front of the radiator itself, so the logo, not being able to defy gravity, needed a support of some sort. In order to most easily locate it at the center, it was decided to use a diagonal bar from one corner of the radiator shell to the other, and mount the badge on that.

That’s it. That’s why Volvos to this day have that diagonal bar—because it was the easiest way to locate the badge in the center of the radiator.

Despite Demand, Dodge Demon Won’t Return As 2019MY, Flippers Rejoice

Dodge has confirmed that there will not be a Challenger SRT Demon produced for the 2019 model year.

When the drag-focused Demon was unveiled last year, the automaker said it would only be built for the 2018 model year and limited to 3300 examples worldwide. Despite this, a number of rumors have surfaced indicating that due to demand, Dodge has decided to build the Demon for one more year.

Speaking to Allpar, however, Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis denied the possibility of the Demon returning in 2019.

“2018 only, one-and-done. The people who sit back and wait for next year are going to miss out,” he confirmed.
