I Struggle With Being Good At Both Of These

If there was one “type” that is needed it would be the type that can self-start. As a founder you need to be self-motivated and hold yourself accountable to intense goals in an intense environment. There is no boss to hold your feet to the fire and say, “did you put that cover on the TPS report?” If the goal is to build a big business with a team around you, I feel it’s important to be a team player who loves building and coaching all-star teams. - Andrew Forman

This Is A Very Intriguing Statement

Do not worry about people stealing your ideas – the upside of feedback and further ideation with smart people is much higher than the downside, one in a million case, where someone has the passion, time, money, and energy to truly steal your idea and execute on it faster and better than you can. - Andrew Forman

LC Sales Failing To Meet Expectations - Why Can't Lexus Make A Performance Car That Sells?

Unless your surname is Porsche and your given name 911, the sales volumes generated by premium two-doors are frighteningly small.

Lexus nevertheless brought to market the two-pronged Lexus LC range, as an indirect successor to the SC, with lofty expectations.

Moreover, Lexus was public with its goals, going so far as to respond directly to TTAC to defend the company’s reasoning.

Rotary Reliability Be Damned, The RX-7 Was One Bad Ass Car

1993 Mazda RX-7 Retro Review | A '90s hero turns 25

There was nothing else like it on the road – and there still isn't

Seen today, the FD walks a fine line between being a beautiful modern classic that can hold its own against much more recent challengers out on the road, and semi-garage queen that demands some time spent under the hood to ensure continued good mechanical behavior. Then again, if you're not the kind of "engaged owner" Mazda was looking for when the RX-7 was new, perhaps you'd do better parking something more pedestrian in your driveway 25 years later. Or at least something with pistons.

Can You Be Both?

I’m always trying to assess when I meet the entrepreneur who founded the company, I’m always trying to figure out one thing first and foremost: Is that person a missionary or a mercenary? The mercenary is trying to flip their stock, the missionaries love their product or their service and love their customer.” - Jeff Bezos

Something You SHOULD KNOW About The All-new Toyota Supra That NO ONE Is Talking About

A friend of AutoSpies, Tim Stevens is in charge of CNET's Roadshow.

A real enthusiast, Tim is the kind of guy that takes his Subaru WRX ice racing. Clearly, he isn't playing around.

This past week I was leafing through my Facebook feed and I came across a picture he snapped at the prototype drive of the all-new Toyota Supra. And, there was a nugget he noted about the Supra no one has pointed out — at all.

If you take a peek of this side-by-side shot, you'll note that the Supra is actually about the same size as the Toyota 86. And the 86 is a small two-door vehicle by modern standards.

As Tim points out, the Supra isn't going to be a "big" car like its elder.

Nintendo wins judgment against real-life Mario Kart operator in Japan

The video game maker is ultra protective of its intellectual property

Bad news, would-be Marios (or, like ex-F1 ace Jenson Button above, Princesses). Marika Co., the entity behind all those real-life Mario Kart sightings on the streets of Tokyo, has been ordered to stop renting to tourists and residents costumes that resemble the characters famously featured in Nintendo's franchise video games.

This judgment comes after Nintendo sued Marika in February of 2017 for violation of intellectual property. Tokyo District Court sided with Nintendo in a ruling that also requires Marika pay Nintendo 10 million yen in damages. That's about $88,000. As of the time this story was published, the website where the karts are booked remains active and populated with plenty of Nintendo-themed characters.

Best we can tell, Marika hasn't been shut down completely, and may still be able to rent go-karts on public streets in Japan. It just can't provide its patrons with outfits to make them look like Mario, Luigi, Princess, Peach, or any other bit of intellectual property owned by Nintendo.

Speak The Truth, Woz!

DOA: Apple's Steve Wozniak Officially Announces The DEATH Of The Self Driving Car. Even BEFORE It's Here.

Wozniak made the comments at Mastercard's 'Connecting Tomorrow' event in Barcelona.

During his talk, he said he's 'lost faith' in the abilities of self-driving car technology and doesn't expect to see them used widely on the roads anytime soon.

'They have to drive on human roads,' Wozniak said, according to Arabian Business.

'If they had train tracks, [there would be] no problem at all. I don't believe that sort of 'vision intelligence' is going to be like a human.

According to Wozniak, autonomous cars will struggle with unforeseen circumstances that are common in a real-world driving scenario.

Four new Chevy Silverado concept trucks get lifted and lowered

These pickups showcase Chevy accessories

RST Street

Next up is the RST Street, above. As for this concept truck, it also lowers the suspension like the first Silverado RST. It has a cold-air intake system, but this one gets six-piston Brembo front brakes in red and a Borla exhaust system. Chevy says the dual exhaust system on the 5.3-liter V8 is good for an additional 10 horsepower. A bunch of body graphics give it a louder look along with its glossy black 22-inch wheels. Faux carbon fiber parts are splattered about on the mirror caps, door handles, grille and interior trim too.

This Is Disappointing To Find Out

Here's Exactly Why The Brand New 2018 Porsche 993 Turbo Isn't Road Legal

Philipp Salm, who heads up sales and marketing at Porsche Classic, explained that it’s a two pronged-problem.

This is not a 1990s car, as the 993 Turbo was when it originally came out. This is a 2018 model year vehicle. It was built by Porsche out of an old, never-used body-in-white. That is, the body shell, the frame, was hanging out somewhere and a couple years ago Porsche hauled it out and built a new 993 out of it.

As a 2018, it would have to follow 2018 regulations, Salm pointed out, for both emissions and noise. The noise regs, new in Europe, particularly would catch up this car, and you’d never be able to pass them with “an air-cooled engine with specs from the 1990s,” as Salm told me.

This Is A Very Tough Question To Answer

IF You Were To Select ONE Brand For Your DREAM Garage, Which Marque Would It Be?

The question, this time: if you had to drive cars made by only one manufacturer for the rest of time, which company would it be?

The rules: you’d have access to any single car maker’s whole back catalogue, any time you wanted. Fuelled, working, free. Opening your garage door would be like stepping into a particular brand’s museum. You’ve got the life you have now, but pick the car you want to drive that day, and off you go . . . . .

Editor's answer: Chevrolet

I'd daily drive a Cruz, and I'd be able to tow the show/race car (Camaro or Corvette) around with my Silverado.

You Sometimes Need To Reset & Restructure To Recapture

VW Group plan puts Porsche in charge of a 'super-premium' division

It will coordinate efforts at Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini

An Automobile report looks into what's happening on the organizational and technical sides of the Volkswagen Group, and what those changes could mean for the premium brands. The wide-angle view is that Porsche appears to have been anointed to "coordinate the future activities" at Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Audi would cede Lamborghini guardianship to Stuttgart, and Ducati — via a new concern called Ducati Enterprises — would become the shepherd for VW's other Italian investments. Executives target Jan. 1, 2019, to complete the reshuffle.

VW wants to save a boodle by tying up four of its five top-tier brands, and putting the one with the highest ROI in charge. Porsche, within its own house, wants to reduce expenditures by $2.3 billion per year over for four years, the savings already earmarked for improving internal processes like R&D and production. Having Porsche share those gains as well as lead development of platforms, components and future-tech strategies for the sister sports car brands could benefit everyone.

A Very Important Question About Cadillac's Land Yacht

The Cadillac Escalade Turns 20 — What Does The Next-gen Escalade NEED To SUCCEED?

I think we can all agree on one thing: The Cadillac Escalade, when it made its prime time debut, was a game changer.

It propelled us all down a road where large, luxury sport-utility vehicles went mainstream.
And now it's turning 20.

Hard to believe, right? Who knew back in 1999 that this vehicle would become an icon and one of the marque's most desired products?

[B]ecause the sales rate is so low—Audi says only 5 percent of A4 buyers worldwide chose a no-cost manual transmission option—the company is dropping the shifting stick from the A4 and A5 model line for the 2019 model year. This leaves Audi’s U.S. lineup devoid of any manual transmission options.

Constellation Brands, the producer of Corona is making a $4B bet on marijuana, investing in Canopy Growth, a Canadian cannabis manufacturer.

The investment gives Constellation a38% stake in Canopy. The brand and many others speculate that the booming Canadian industry will be lucrative in the States once companies like Constellation are guessing will be legalized nationwide in the US before long.

Canopy stocks rose 30% during Wednesday trading on the news. Constellation dropped 6.1%, but if things pan out, Constellation has the opportunity to buy 139.7M more shares over the next three years, or the equivalent in another $5B in funding.
